TAIPEI (Kyodo) Former Taiwanese President Lee Teng-hui plans to visit Japan next month, sources close to him said Tuesday.

Lee's visit planned for Sept. 4 to 10 will begin in Tokyo, where he will address a business group, and will include stops in Kochi, Kumamoto and Fukuoka prefectures, according to the source, who declined to be identified because Lee's office has not yet announced the trip.

Lee, 86, had hoped to travel to Japan in May, but he canceled that trip on orders from his doctor after experiencing lung problems and other ailments.

It will be his fifth visit to Japan since stepping down as president in 2000.
