CHIBA (Kyodo) About 960,000 people are expected to pass through Narita International Airport during the Golden Week holidays from April 24 to May 7, up 4 percent from a year earlier, its operator said Thursday.

South Korea and Guam are destinations popular with holidaymakers taking advantage of a drop in fuel surcharges and a strong yen, according to the operator.

The peak of the holiday exodus is expected to be on May 2, when around 46,800 people will depart the airport, while the rush of returning travelers will be on May 6, when some 46,100 people will arrive there, the operator said.
