YOKOHAMA (Kyodo) All municipal elementary and junior high schools in Yokohama will be involved in a nine-year unified school education system starting with the 2012 academic year, the city's board of education said Monday.

The 346 elementary schools and 145 junior high schools will be teamed to provide detailed education during the continuing nine-year curriculum, the board said.

Under a continuity system introduced at several schools last April, junior high school teachers take part in elementary school classes while primary and secondary schools jointly conduct club activities and school events.

The city aims to spread the system to all schools in April 2012.
