Retired couples are being invited to accept foreign students on home-stay programs by Tokyo-based Succeo Co. both for the promotion of grassroots international exchanges and the financial reward.

"We want to provide opportunities for grandfathers and grandmothers to help promote popular Japanese culture to the world and for their grandchildren to experience different cultures," a company official said.

Kanji Yanagida, 70, who retired from the liquor retail business several years ago, began accepting foreign students at his home in Saitama through the company's program.
