Toshiba Corp. is considering acquiring Nuclear Fuel Industries Ltd., a joint venture of Furukawa Electric Co. and Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd., sources said Tuesday.
Toshiba, which has been enhancing its nuclear power business as one of the pillars of its efforts to boost profits, aims to gain the upper hand in getting construction orders for reactors in the U.S. by buying the nuclear fuel producer and expanding fuel sales to overseas markets, the sources said.
