A truck hit a guardrail Thursday on the Tomei Expressway in Kanagawa Prefecture and subsequently dumped about 12 tons of bottled liquid detergent along the highway, police said.

No one was injured.

The accident occurred at around 8 a.m. when the truck, driven by a 49-year-old man, hit the guardrail.

Two of the three lanes were temporarily closed during the cleanup effort, causing a traffic jam, police said.

The driver apparently lost control of the truck when it tried to change lanes, police said.

The accident occurred about 2 km from the Nakai Parking Area.

The truck was carrying 500 ml bottles of detergent, and several broke upon impact.
