Foreign Minister Taro Aso and his German counterpart, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, agreed Friday to continue cooperation on reform of the U.N. Security Council, Foreign Ministry officials said.

Aso said over the phone that it is important to maintain solidarity with Germany and other nations under the so-called Group of Four framework and to consider ways of obtaining U.S. backing on reforming the Security Council.

Tokyo is reviewing its bid to seek an expanded council to include Japan, Brazil, Germany and India.
