An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 rocked the Kanto and Tohoku regions Wednesday evening, the Meteorological Agency said.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the 8:44 p.m. quake, which registered a lower 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in southern Ibaraki Prefecture, the agency said.
A 78-year-old woman in Ibaraki Prefecture was injured in the quake, according to local government officials.
The intensity was rated as 4 in part of Fukushima Prefecture, and in northern Ibaraki, southern Tochigi and northeastern Chiba prefectures.
