Tax revenues were down 3.7 percent in June from a year earlier, falling to 1.98 trillion yen, the Finance Ministry said Monday.
The decline mainly stemmed from 2.58 billion yen in consumption tax refunds to companies that made major investments in plants and equipment.
Consumption tax revenue totaled 38.75 billion yen last June.
This June, income tax revenue fell 5.5 percent to 933.05 billion yen and liquor tax revenue dropped 4.5 percent to 139.98 billion yen. Revenue from the tobacco tax dropped 9.6 percent to 65.13 billion yen.
In contrast, corporate tax revenue rose 6.6 percent to 263.15 billion yen.
