An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.7 shook Yamanashi Prefecture on Sunday afternoon, the Meteorological Agency said.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the 2:53 p.m. quake.
The quake measured 4 on the Japanese intensity scale of 7 in Fuefuki and Fujikawaguchiko. Lesser shocks were felt elsewhere in the prefecture.
The focus of the quake was about 20 km underground in eastern Yamanashi.
