Typhoon Nock-ten in the East China Sea was approaching the Amami Islands in Kagoshima Prefecture on Monday afternoon after hitting Taiwan, the Meteorological Agency said.
The typhoon, however, is likely to be downgraded to a temperate depression Tuesday, when it is expected to reach an area 80 km northwest of Naze on Amami-Oshima Island at around 6 p.m., the agency said.
The typhoon, the season's 24th, was about 70 km north-northeast of Taipei at 6 p.m. Monday, heading north at 15 kph, the agency said.
