A 15-year-old Saitama Prefecture boy who was arrested for making pipe bombs and who wrote last month that he planned to bomb his school was handed over to prosecutors Wednesday, prefectural police said.

Police said they arrested the youth, a third-year student at a junior high school in the city of Tokorozawa, on Tuesday after confiscating four pipe bombs and a large amount of fireworks from his home. They also found a hand-made stun gun.

"I wanted to make grenades because I am interested in shooting with toy guns," police quoted the boy as saying. He also said he had experimented with explosives in a field at night after finding out how to make them via the Internet, police said.

The boy is suspected of making pipe bombs filled with fireworks explosives at his home between late August and early September, police said.

Police were tipped off by a female caller who said her son was "making something that looks like a bomb."

The teen had been absent from school for several months, and when school officials sent out questionnaires to truants last month, the youth wrote that he planned to bomb the school, according to police.
