Toyota makes 1 millionth Tundra

NEW YORK (Kyodo) Toyota Motor Corp. produced its 1 millionth Tundra pickup truck at its Indiana factory on Wednesday, the carmaker said.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana, Inc. started making Tundras in 1998 and has since seen competition in the U.S. pickup truck market intensify.

Pickup trucks have become one of the major profit sources for the Big Three: General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and DaimlerChrysler AG.

Japanese rivals Nissan Motor Co. and Honda Motor Co. have followed in Toyota’s footsteps by launching their own pickup models.
