Hitachi Ltd. and Hewlett-Packard Co. said Thursday they will extend their joint technology cooperation pact and original equipment manufacturer ties for high-end data storage devices, also known as disk arrays. Hitachi and the U.S. firm signed the agreement in May 1999, and the latest deal makes it effective until 2008.

The pact involves the HP StorageWorks XP family, a series of disk array products designed for enterprise-class data centers, which combines Hitachi's disk array technology with exclusive HP-developed software, solutions and services, the firms said.
