NTT DoCoMo Inc.'s newly launched SH505i cell phone has software problems that could lead to the loss of stored game data, a company official said Wednesday.

The company will replace the defective software free of charge, he said. NTT DoCoMo has sold 190,000 SH505i handsets since the model was launched June 20.

The software problems involve the i-APRI service, which allows users to download games and other applications from NTT DoCoMo's network.

NTT DoCoMo has received six inquires about software malfunctions for the handset, which is manufactured by Sharp Corp., the official said.

Basic functions for cell phone and phone data services are not affected by the software bugs, he said.
