TOTTORI – A fisherman was missing Tuesday after his small boat capsized in the Sea of Japan off Iwami, Tottori Prefecture, Japan Coast Guard officials said.
The overturned Kowa Maru was found floating about 500 meters off the town at around 7:50 a.m. by another boat, the officials said.
Yorimitsu Sawa, 63, who was aboard the 0.3-ton boat, is missing, they said.
Sawa, who is from Iwami, set out at about 12:30 a.m. to pull in a fishing net, the officials said.
His family called for help when he failed to return home after two hours. The Kowa Maru might have flipped while Sawa was pulling the net in, they said. There were no weather alerts at the time of the accident and visibility was good, they added.
