Fukuoka police have arrested nine boys aged between 15 and 17 for their alleged involvement in the murder Wednesday of a 17-year-old construction worker in Sasaguri, Fukuoka Prefecture.

The suspects, members of a teenage gang, allegedly beat and kicked to death Makoto Nagae, a construction worker who lived in Sasaguri, near a lake in the Onaka area Wednesday night. The police said Nagae died of shock from internal bleeding caused by hepatorrhexis.

Nagae is believed to have been one of the members of the gang.

Three of the suspects were junior high school students and two were senior high school students. The gang was led by a 16-year-old boy, the police said.

None of the nine have been identified because they are minors. Some surrendered to police on Friday at the urging of an acquaintance of Nagae, according to police.
