Crown Prince Naruhito, his wife, Crown Princess Masako, and their daughter, Princess Aiko, visited Numappara marsh here Friday.

The couple and their 8-month-old child spent two leisurely hours strolling around and chatting with other hikers in the highland marsh renowned for its alpine flora.

The prince carried Princess Aiko on his back in a baby carrier as the family walked around the marsh, where water lobelia and lilies were in full bloom, and they took pictures of the flowers.

Princess Aiko seemed to enjoy herself, waving to people when held by her mother and putting out her hand to pat the face of her father when he stood next to her.

According to Imperial Household Agency officials, Princess Aiko, who is now able to stand up by holding onto other objects, is cheerful and healthy.

The Imperial family has been spending its summer vacation at an Imperial villa in Nasu in Tochigi Prefecture since Aug. 8 and is scheduled to return to Tokyo next Thursday.
