Members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries have agreed to hold the next general meeting of the oil producing organization in Osaka in September, OPEC Secretary General Alvaro Silva Calderon said Thursday.

While OPEC traditionally holds its general meetings at its headquarters in Vienna, the organization apparently chose Osaka for this year's session to coincide with a Sept. 21-23 conference of energy ministers of oil producing and importing countries.

At the Osaka meeting, OPEC is expected to make a decision on the level of crude output among member countries for the coming winter.

OPEC has reduced the volume of crude output among member countries by 1.5 million barrels per day since January in an effort to support oil prices.

Oil importing countries want the organization to increase output, and thus lower prices, in order to boost the global economy.

OPEC member countries have yet to decide on the level of crude output for the October-December quarter, Silva said.
