The U.S. has presented to Japan evidence that the Sept. 11 terror attacks on New York and the Pentagon were the work of Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaeda network, Japanese Ambassador to the U.S. Shunji Yanai said Tuesday.

The evidence is "convincing," Yanai told reporters.

He did not go into specifics, saying, "I hear the contents are the same as those explained by the U.S. government to NATO countries."

In Brussels on Tuesday, NATO Secretary General George Robertson said Washington has presented "compelling and conclusive" evidence that bin Laden and his al-Qaeda organization were behind the attacks.
