YGK Co. will launch an originally designed sports car in Japan and overseas in November 2002, the Yamagata-based company said Tuesday.

A 4,000cc engine was designed for the vehicle in cooperation with Tokai University professor Yoshimasa Hayashi, while the chassis was created by YGK's British subsidiary.

YGK will subcontract engine production to an engine maker in Japan, and final assembly will take place in Japan and Britain, company officials said.

The sports car is likely to carry a price tag of up to 25 million yen. The company plans to raise output to 20 units a month by 2004.

It will also sell a model made especially for racing for 200 million yen.

President Masahiro Yamazaki said the company is aiming to become the 12th Japanese automaker.
