General Electric Co. said Thursday it has named Yoshiaki Fujimori as president and chief executive officer of GE Plastics, making him the first Japanese to head one of GE's 20 major business divisions.

Fujimori, 49, currently president and CEO of GE Medical Systems-Asia, will assume the new post on June 1, GE said in a press release.

Fujimori joined GE Japan in October 1986 as a manager after working for Nissho Iwai Corp.

Itochu, Marubeni finalize allianceMajor trading firms Itochu Corp. and Marubeni Corp. said Friday they have finalized a plan to set up a new company on Oct. 1 to integrate their steel product businesses.

The new company, owned equally by the two companies, will be capitalized at 30 billion yen.
