Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus and his wife, Alma Adamkiene, met the Emperor and Empress on Tuesday at the Imperial Palace, the Imperial Household Agency said.
It was the first time for the two couples to meet.
Later, the Lithuanian president and his wife attended a luncheon hosted by the Emperor. The Crown Prince and government officials from both countries also attended the session. The Crown Princess had to cancel due to a cold, the agency said.
Adamkus, who arrived Monday, is on a five-day official visit to Japan.
