While strolling through Bangkok's Centerpoint teen hangout, one can see Thai youth dressed in fashions just like those worn in Tokyo's trendy Harajuku shopping district.

Over the past few years, Japanese fashion has become widely popular with younger Thais, especially those living in urban areas. It is now common in Thailand to see teenagers sporting brightly colored spaghetti-strap dresses, platform shoes, glittery makeup and even hair dyed various colors.

Aom, a 16-year-old girl with dyed yellow hair, a short dress, boots and silver lipstick, said she normally hangs out at Centerpoint all day on weekends and closely observes other young people to keep up with fashion trends.

"Fashion here is from Japan. I think Japanese style is cute and it works well in Asia. I follow the fashion trends of other people in Centerpoint, but I have to choose what suits me too. I'm also interested in Japanese singers and language, but some of my friends only care about fashion," she said.
