FUKUI – The brake pads on one of the trains involved in Sunday’s head-on collision in Matsuoka, Fukui Prefecture, were in the open position although the driver’s emergency brake had been pulled, investigators said Monday.
The discovery lends credence to suspicions that brake failure was responsible for the fatal accident on the Keifuku Electric Railroad Co.’s Echizen Line.
