The bodies of five more Japanese victims of the Nov. 11 fire aboard an alpine funicular train in Austria were identified Thursday, bringing to nine the number of Japanese confirmed to have been killed in the fire, the Japanese Embassy in Vienna said.

Identified were Hirokazu Oyama, 24, and Masanobu Onodera and Tomohisa Saze, both 14-year-old students at Inawashiro Junior High School in Fukushima Prefecture, embassy officials said. The names of the remaining two were not released at the request of their families.

The nine were among a total of 10 Japanese skiers who are believed to have perished in the blaze. A total of 155 people died when a fire destroyed the funicular train inside a 3.2-km tunnel under the 3,203-meter Mount Kitzsteinhorn.

Local media said roughly half the 155 victims were identified by DNA testing conducted by the University of Salzburg.

Three relatives of Ayaka Katono, 14, who was identified Wednesday, arrived late Thursday in Salzburg from the town of Inawashiro, Fukushima Prefecture, to claim her body.
