Save Earth from annihilation while exercising the brain

Staff Writer

Feel like saving the world from a giant asteroid strike? Now’s your chance.

Visit Makuhari Messe on Nov. 16 or 17 and you can join the Kyodai Shinden Kara no Dasshutsu (Escape from the Giant Temple) game, where you’ll time-travel to the world of A.D. 4013 and discover that a hefty asteroid is estimated to obliterate the planet in 60 minutes.

The only way to stop the catastrophe is for you to enter an ancient temple (created inside the convention center) and reboot a 2,000-year-old robot — but, in order to get through the doors, first you must solve the puzzles and quizzes that await you.

This event is produced by SCRAP, a Tokyo-based company specializing in large-scale interactive escape games. The team has organized similar events across Japan, with some allowing less than 5 percent of participants to successfully solve all the quizzes. Come prepared to tackle some serious brain twisters.

Kyodai Shinden Kara no Dasshutsu game takes place at Makuhari Messe in Chiba on Nov. 16 and 17. Starting times vary depending on the day. Advance tickets are ¥3,000, tickets sold at the door are ¥3,500. There are no age restrictions but elementary school children must be accompanied by an adult.
