OSAKA — The Osaka Securities Exchange said Monday it will rename the Nasdaq Japan stock market for startups Hercules on Dec. 16 due to the termination of its alliance with Nasdaq Japan Inc.

The selection of the name of a hero in Greek mythology reflects the Osaka bourse’s hopes that listed companies will grow strongly, OSE officials said.

Hercules was chosen from among 452 candidate names solicited from the public, the OSE said.

The Nasdaq Japan market was set up on the premises of the OSE in June 2000 as a fundraising venue primarily for startup ventures. About 100 companies are listed on the market.
