At Chiba Marine Stadium, Fernando Seguignol and Tomochika Tsuboi each drove in a pair of runs to power Nippon Ham to a win over Lotte.

Seguignol connected for a solo homer in the fourth inning when the Fighters scored four runs to take a 4-1 lead over the Marines.

Nippon Ham starter Naoyuki Tateishi picked up the win after holding the Marines to one run on seven hits over five innings.

Hiroyuki Kobayashi gave up six runs on 10 hits over 6 1/3 innings for the loss as the Marines dropped five games behind the Hawks in the standings.

Buffaloes 2, Eagles 1

At Fullcast Stadium in Sendai, Cliff Brumbaugh hit a solo homer to left in the top of the ninth inning to lift Orix to a win over Rakuten.

Tatsuo Kato, who gave up one run over the final two innings, picked up the win for the Buffaloes.


Swallows 5, Dragons 4

At Nagoya Dome, Akinori Iwamura connected for a three-run homer in the third inning and Adam Riggs added a two-run blast in the ninth as Yakult edged Chunichi.

Chunichi scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth on a solo homer by Masahiro Araki and a two-run shot by Tyrone Woods.

Shugo Fujii held the Dragons to two runs on three hits over eight-plus innings for the win and Hirotoshi Ishii picked up the save, despite giving up the two-run homer to Woods in the ninth.

Giants 13, Carp 2 (8)

At Hiroshima Stadium, Shinnosuke Abe hit a grand slam in the fourth inning and leadoff hitter Takayuki Shimizu went 4-for-5 with three RBIs as Yomiuri cruised to a win over the Carp in a game that was called after eight innings because of rain.

Koji Uehara picked up the win after holding the Carp to two runs on four hits over 7 1/3 innings.

Tigers 2, BayStars 1 (10)

At Sapporo Dome, Atsushi Fujimoto drove in the winning run on a single up the middle in the top of the 10th inning to lift Central League-leading Hanshin to a win over Yokohama.

Hanshin reliever Kyuji Fujikawa picked up the win after recording two outs in the ninth and Tomoyuki Kubota retired the side in the 10th for the save as the Tigers opened up a three-game lead over Chunichi in the standings.
