As for the London Olympic Games, I noticed that NHK was to broadcast the opening ceremony live, starting at 4:30 a.m., so I duly set my TV to record and looked forward to watching it the following day. But I was baffled to discover that the program came to an abrupt end just before the grand finale: the lighting of the flame, the flag-raising and the (reportedly) spectacular fireworks display.

Thus viewers were denied seeing the actual opening ceremony, as advertised, in favor of "Good Morning, Nippon"! Could this be an example of the famous Japanese ijiwaru (maliciousness) or simply NHK ineptitude?
