The Maritime Self-Defense Force has started deploying its new Mogami-class frigates, featuring stealth and multifunctional capabilities, as well as an ability to operate with half as many crew members as deployed on conventional frigates.
MSDF officials hope that the vessels will contribute to strengthening Japan’s defense capacity, while at the same time promoting work-style reform for MSDF personnel by virtue of labor-saving innovations.
