Aeon Co. will integrate its three supermarket subsidiaries under the Aeon brand as part of efforts to rebuild its struggling domestic business, sources said Friday.

The three units are Aeon Retail Co., the Chiba Prefecture-based operator of Jusco brand stores; Mycal Corp., the Osaka-based operator of Saty brand stores; and Aeon Marche Co., another Chiba Prefecture-based arm that took over the Japanese retail outlets of French supermarket operator Carrefour SA, the sources said.

Aeon Retail will absorb the other two supermarket arms by February, they said.

The consolidation of personnel and accounting operations would help cut the Aeon group's overall costs by ¥50 billion a year, they said.

The unification will also help bolster the efficiency of merchandise procurement, they added.
