The operating company of ABC Language School, an Osaka-based English school that shut down its classrooms at the end of last month, filed Monday for bankruptcy, seeking court protection from creditors, the company said.</PARAGRAPH>
<PARAGRAPH>According to bankruptcy trustee Katsuyuki Mitsu, the company has liabilities totaling 100 million yen.</PARAGRAPH>
<PARAGRAPH>Lesson fees that should have been repaid to students comes to 30 million yen, and unpaid salaries for teachers and other employees is at 15 million yen, Mitsu said.</PARAGRAPH>
<PARAGRAPH>The company ran four schools in Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe, catering to 800 students.</PARAGRAPH>
<PARAGRAPH>The school boasted affordable one-on-one lessons, but it faced a shortage in operating funds after investing heavily to increase lesson rooms and advertising.</PARAGRAPH>
