An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.1 jolted Tokyo and its vicinity Thursday evening, the Meteorological Agency said.

A 61-year-old man in Ishibashi, Tochigi Prefecture, sustained minor head injuries when he was hit by a flowerpot, which dropped from a television set during the 7:15 p.m. quake, local authorities said.

No tsunami warning was issued.

The quake measured 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale to 7 in some parts of Tochigi, Ibaraki, Gunma and Saitama prefectures.
