Switch on the television, and soon enough you'll see a commercial in which a famous comedian playing a hotshot young businessman screams every time his girlfriend orders expensive items in stores or restaurants. Then all his problems go away when the name of a consumer-loan firm pops into his mind, and suddenly we see him singing for joy.

In another advert, another cash-strapped young businessman is always being pressed by his girlfriend to pay for expensive dinners or foreign trips. Then a wise old man, played by a famous comedian, tells him that's just what a guy's got to do sometimes -- and if he's short of readies, he need look no further than a personal loan.

On TVs and billboards these days, what might be called consumer loan lenders, as opposed to shady loan sharks, are keeping up their continual bombardment of consumers with lures for easily available, unsecured, high-interest loans.
