A Japanese man has been missing since Thursday after reportedly being abducted from his Manila hotel room by four Japanese men, officials said Monday.

The Japanese Embassy, which confirmed it had received reports about the kidnapping, said it had no further details.

The missing tourist, in his 50s, is from Ogaki, Gifu Prefecture. His name is being withheld.

A Filipino who witnessed the incident reported the abduction to police.

According to the witness, four Japanese wearing beach slippers visited the victim's room apparently in search of missing money. The men, who identified themselves as Japanese police, forcibly took the victim and shoved him into a waiting van.
