Mitsubishi Corp. said Friday it will start its first-ever large-scale midcareer recruitment campaign to inject new talent into its information technology sector.

Mitsubishi, Japan's largest trading house, revised its personnel system for the first time in 30 years this April, switching from the traditional seniority system to a merit-based one. The recruitment campaign is part of the company's effort to place more importance on employees' capabilities, it says.

The company said it plans to hire 30 midcareer employees in the present campaign and 140 new graduates next spring. It also plans to increase the ratio of midcareer hirings.

The posts available include specialized positions such as microeconomists, international personnel specialists, e-business officers, and media and operation-merger strategists.

Requirements will vary for each position, but there are no specifications with respect to age, gender or nationality. The Internet-only applications will be open until Jan. 19, 2001, at www.mitsubishi.co.jp/recruit
