The government compiled a five-year action program to promote structural reform and achieve economic progress while continuing to reflect the IT revolution and environmental concerns, the Ministry of International Trade and Industry announced Thursday.

The Cabinet is expected to approve the new action program today.

The program is designed to make optimal use of Japan's potential resources, such as labor and technology, but at the same time it is designed to use negative factors such as the aging society and environmental concerns as driving forces in the economy, a MITI official said.
