Rover Japan announced Monday that its chairman, Peter J. Woods, stepped down on Jan. 1.
He also retired as chairman of the council of the European Business Community, a post he had served since March 1997. Woods assumed the posts of president and representative director of Rover Japan in 1986, then became chairman last May. He will return to Britain, where he is expected to take up a post at the Department of Trade and Industry.
