TOKYO, Japan – February 14, 2019 – ORIX Corporation (“ORIX”) announced today that it is has begun a seabed geological survey off the coast of Choshi, Chiba Prefecture, with the aim of the feasibility study of an offshore wind power generation business.
ORIX has obtained the consent of relevant local parties. It will carry out an acoustic seabed survey in the waters off the Choshi coast; research vessels fitted with equipment such as an acoustic bottom profiler will sail around the waters and investigate the conditions, the ground structure, and the topography of the seabed.

1. Geological exploration
(using an acoustic bottom profiler to identify the geological structure of seabed)
2. Investigations of seabed conditions
(using a side-scan sonar to determine man-made structures such as artificial reefs and submarine cables on the seafloor; the state of marine waste and shipwrecks that have been deposited on the seafloor; the state of sand waves; and the makeup and distribution of soil on the seafloor)
3. Topographical survey
(using an echo sounder to confirm the topography of the sea floor)
January 30 to March 15, 2019 (scheduled)
