Mt. Fuji viewing dinner in Urawa
The Royal Pines Hotel in Urawa is offering a dinner course to allow diners the chance to enjoy views of Mt. Fuji at its Chinese restaurant Saiko through Feb. 27.
Located on the 18th floor, Saiko provides guests with a view of the beautiful mountain throughout the year, which is even more spectacular in the clear winter air and especially breathtaking at sunset. Unfortunately, because dinner at the restaurant usually starts at 5:30 p.m. (5 p.m. on weekends and holidays), guests are unable to enjoy the view in the winter. To address this, a dinner course, named “Fuji Sunset Dinner” is available from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for a maximum of six groups (from two to 25 people) per day. Weather permitting, guests can enjoy gorgeous views of Mt. Fuji while dining.
The dinner course is comprised of six dishes, including appetizers, shark fin soup, sauteed beef and vegetables, stir-fried shrimp in chili sauce and fried noodles or rice, accompanied by dessert for ¥5,000 (tax and service charge excluded) per person.

Strawberry Fair in Osaka
The Rihga Royal Hotel Osaka will hold a Strawberry Fair from Feb. 15 through March 31 at its take-out shop Gourmet Boutique Melissa on the first floor.
Providing customers with breads, cakes and delicatessen items made by the hotel’s chefs, Melissa will offer 22 seasonal sweets during the fair. Among the highlights is an original Strawberry Haute Couture Cake created by the hotel’s pastry chef Tadahiro Oki, to commemorate the hotel’s 80th anniversary. From out of a strawberry-shaped chocolate dome appears a “princess” in a gorgeous “dress” of custard, whipped cream and strawberry-decorated sponge cake. The cake is priced at ¥10,800 (tax included).
Also featured are richly flavored Royal Strawberry Danish pastries for ¥324; the annually popular Kamakura strawberry bread with “gyuhi” (soft rice cake) and “shiro-an” (sweet white bean paste) for ¥249; and many other strawberry creations.
Commemorating the anniversary, a “piece montee” (decorative confectionery centerpiece) 1:100-scale model of the hotel made with 100 kilograms of sugar is on display in the main lobby through June 30.

Foreign currency option in Hokkaido
The JR Tower Hotel Nikko Sapporo has introduced Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC), making it the first to do so among hotels in Hokkaido.
For the convenience of foreign tourists, the hotel’s DCC service provides Visa or MasterCard holders with a choice of transaction currency, either their home currency or Japanese yen. With this service, foreign guests will be able to see the exact amount their card will be charged, expressed in their home currency, while avoiding exchange risk.
The service is available for 14 currencies: U.S. dollars, Taiwanese dollars, Thai baht, Australian dollars, U.K. pounds, Singapore dollars, Malaysian ringgit, Canadian dollars, Philippine pesos, Vietnamese dong, Indian rupee, Russian ruble and Euro.
