Disco fever at the Grand Hyatt
On Dec. 27, the Grand Hyatt Tokyo will be turning back the clock and cranking up the volume for a night of disco.
For “Club Chic 2007 Winter — Greatest ’70s Disco Hits and Classics” the hotel’s spacious 1,000-sq.-meter Grand Ballroom will be transformed into a gorgeous disco, including a VIP seating area where you can catch your breath on sofas in between dance classics.
The party starts at 9 p.m. and continues until 2 a.m. (last admission 1 a.m.). Tickets are ¥10,000 in advance and ¥12,000 at the door; VIP tickets are ¥20,000 and ¥22,000, including one drink. Dress code is semiformal and guests are requested not to wear jeans or sneakers. Men should be 25 or older and women should be 20 or older.
The Grand Hyatt Tokyo is part of the Roppongi Hills complex, a three-minute walk from Roppongi Station.

Clubbing at Alux
Alux, the members-only luxury lounge bar in Minami Aoyama, will open its doors to nonmembers Dec. 26 and on the last Wednesday of every month for “Tokyo Lounge.”
Producers of the event aim to provide a luxurious, stylish space where visitors can experience the “Tokyo of today,” in collaboration with creative people from various fields.
Photographs by Kosuke Akiyama that capture the essence of Tokyo will be displayed throughout the club and in the spacious downstairs dining area, visual artwork by the Midea creative workshop will be projected on the wall. The uniquely patterned, indented wall covering in the dining area was designed by Kelly Chen, who learned graphic design in New York and now is a Hong Kong-based international actress. Ken Harada, who produces pop music for the likes of Ayumi Hamasaki, will provide a unique selection of house, electro and techno music.
The event is being held in collaboration with Moet & Chandon, and “Nector on Ice,” a new way to enjoy Moet’s Nectar Imperial champagne, will be offered as a welcome drink.
Admission is ¥5,000 with five free drinks. Bottles of wine and champagne are also available (wine from ¥8,000, Dom Perignon champagne ¥30,000 and Moet & Chandon Nectar Imperial ¥10,000). A table in the VIP area can be reserved for ¥30,000. Dress code is smart casual.

New Year’s cake
The Hotel Grand Palace in Tokyo is taking orders for its popular orange cake, baked in the shape of kagami-mochi.
Kagami-mochi, or “mirror” rice cake, is a traditional Japanese New Year’s decoration that consists of two layered, round rice cakes with a Japanese orange on top. During New Year celebrations, kagami-mochi is displayed in houses as an offering to the gods for a healthy and happy new year, after which it is eaten.
The Hotel Grand Palace’s cake, an almost perfect replica of kagami-mochi coated with white chocolate, could make a nice surprise yearend or New Year’s gift for family and friends.
The cake is ¥4,500 and can be picked up between Dec. 25 and Dec. 30 at the hotel’s first-floor Julie cake shop from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m on weekdays or 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and holidays. The stand and an orange, as seen in the picture, are not included. The Hotel Grand Palace is a 1-minute walk from Kudanshita Station.
