Art / Openings In Tokyo

'Gabriel Orozco: Visible Labor'

by Daisuke Kikuchi

Staff Writer

This show runs concurrent with Gabriel Orozco’s solo show at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, his first large-scale exhibition in Japan. During his recent stay here, Orozco created a new series of works titled “Visible Labor,” featuring pieces inspired by Japanese architecture and crafts.

By using traditional carpentry techniques, such as sophisticated joinery that doesn’t require any metal fittings or nails, his work not only reveals an admiration and respect for Japanese artistry, but also highlights the importance of passing down and keeping such traditions alive.
