I don’t make New Year’s resolutions as I think they are only made in the heat of the moment, when emotions are running high. Instead, I meditate and set “daily resolutions” of a sort, which I then evaluate daily and do what is necessary to make sure I can move along with those promises to myself.

My New Year’s resolution is to travel overseas to America to relax. I hope I can do it. As for broken resolutions, last year I made a promise to myself not to stop working at my former company, but in November I did just that and switched to my current company — so I guess that was a broken resolution.

When I first got here it was to improve my Japanese and stop being shy. That worked, as now I organize meetups. I don’t break resolutions as I don’t make many. This year I aim to get stronger — to go to the gym. Also, to do a one-hand handstand — but in fact I can do that now!

I forget most of my New Year’s resolutions after a short time but I do make some every year. This year I will try to meet friends I haven’t seen for a long time, and maybe do some yoga too — plus eat more chocolate. Ask me next year if I kept these resolutions.

At the start of last year I was alone and, to be honest, lonely, so I wanted a new girlfriend, and that did happen in 2014, and I even got engaged in November, so last year’s resolutions mean nothing. This year my resolution is to be happy, because for me now, the future is special.

Last year’s one was to pass everything in school to get here, and I did that. So, my new resolution would be to work hard and get back to Japan around September as a web designer or to teach English.
