A theme park based on miniature models will open in the Ariake district on Tokyo Bay next spring, according to leisure facility operator Small Worlds Inc.

Small Worlds Tokyo theme park will be a 8,000-sq.-meter indoor facility with 1/80th scale models of objects spanning seven different themes, including such places as Kansai Airport.

Many of the miniatures will be operational, including for example, rockets that lift off.

Special tickets will be available that allow visitors to place model figures they personally make using 3D printers on any area they like.

“We want visitors to enjoy experiences, such as taking pictures and handling objects, not just seeing them,” said Masahiro Kondo, president of the Tokyo-based company.

Small Worlds estimates 2 million people will visit the park annually. Admission fees have not been set.
