The Tokyo High Court on Monday decided to allow prosecutors to detain a 33-year-old Nepalese man who was acquitted last month in a 1997 murder case.
Following the decision, the Tokyo High Public Prosecutor's Office took Govinda Prasad Mainali, a former restaurant worker, back into custody.
Mainali had been acquitted last month by the Tokyo District Court. In that ruling, the court said there was sufficient reasonable doubt that the defendant committed the crime.
