Q1: What was your first encounter with Japan?

The Japan flame was lit in college. First it was language studies in Tokyo. This led to work in a psychiatric hospital, an MBA in international management and Japanese language, executive positions in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries and to my current journey as an entrepreneur. I was raised in the Philadelphia area until I was 17, spent 20 years in Osaka and a total of 13 years in Tokyo.

Q2: Please state your motto in life and why you have chosen it.

“Make today better than yesterday.” This holds true for personal and career growth, relationships with family, friends and colleagues, and with how we approach the ever-more-fragile global environment. I am a big believer in a cycle of continuous improvement that requires introspection, planning and execution. This leads to a clear understanding of areas for improvement, a road map to get there and ultimately a better world.

Q3 : Over your career, what achievement are you the proudest of?

HealthyTokyo is a company of firsts driven by a talented team. We help thousands of people lead a less stressful and healthier life. We pioneered the introduction of CBD oil to Japan in 2016. Our HealthyTokyo Cafe & Shop in Haneda is the first and only 100 percent vegan cafe and CBD oil provider in a Japanese airport. Our online shop is incredibly popular.

Q4 : What are your goals during your time in Japan, your current position or in life?

Long-lasting and fruitful relationships both inside and outside the company. We will continue to grow HealthyTokyo as a high-quality brand providing ethical products and services for a less stressful and healthier lifestyle. We welcome partnerships with like-minded synergistic companies and individuals. Innovation is in our blood. We have a lot more exciting “Japan-firsts” coming soon.

Q5 : What wisdom, advice or tips can you give to people living and working in Japan?
