What three things would you take to a foreign country?
Like Survivor, but not set on a desert island — it's a vast sprawling metropolis with unfamiliar terrain, terminology and script. Armed only with compass and guidebook, knowing they must do battle with taxi drivers, ticket machines and shop attendants, Melanie Burton asked our intrepid travelers what three things they would take with them upon traveling to a foreign country. Keep your wits about you folks; it's a jungle out there.

Should foreigners be allowed to participate in national sporting events?
Nick KwanAccountant, 28 Sport is based on skill and competition, not race. It should be an international forum where people of all races can compete together. If you want to be homogenous and one-eyed, then you won't improve.

What was your impression of Japan before you came here?
Mark Friesen Industrial Designer, 40 I heard the whole packing people on the train story a lot, but before I came here I thought, "Oh, come on, nobody would ever do that." But it's true. Of course, since having lived here I've seen a lot more stranger things than that.

How are foreigners faring in financially lean times?
Victoria Bauzyte Model, 20 I work at two shows per day and get 70,000 yen for those two. It's not the most you can get, but it's nice for starters, especially since I got it after just one week of casting.
