One thing that warlords Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1537-98) and Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543-1616) are famous for is tenka tōitsu, the unification of Japan. If a similar achievement could be made in the world of ramen, then the Tenka Toitsu Ramen Battle is the closest you'll get to it.
The event features ramen shops from across the country and the "battle" is split into two sessions (March 15-20 and 21-26), each comprising 10 shops each. Those groups will also be split into assari (light) and kotteri (rich) ramen.
This is one battle in which ramen lovers are certain to come out of victorious. (Yuki Yamauchi)
Tenka Toitsu Ramen Battle runs from March 15-26 at Nishiumeda Square. Visit the website for more information.
