Nago mayor remains defiant over Futenma plan
Susumu Inamine, mayor of Nago, Okinawa Prefecture, vowed Thursday to use every weapon in his arsenal to block the central government's efforts to construct a replacement base in his city for the U.S. Futenma airfield.

Fears widen over Kadena toxins
Just days after the commander of U.S. Kadena Air Base, near the city of Okinawa, promised parents their children's schools were safe from dioxin contamination, a further 50 chemical barrels have been unearthed from adjacent land and a retired U.S. Air Force major has come forward with claims the school grounds are located near a former dump-and-burn site for waste that included military defoliants.

Monetary base reaches record high for the eighth consecutive month

Denials of defoliant at former U.S. base site in Okinawa fly in the face of science
The inescapable fact is that the U.S. military, on Kadena Air Base, disposed of materials in drums containing 2,4,5-T , a wartime defoliant, and TCDD, the most toxic component of the dioxin family, known to be associated with the manufacture of such herbicides.
